EU Trademark Registration Cost: EUIPO Trademark Fees
When filing a trademark application, the applicant must pay the basic fee within one month from the filing date of the application with EUIPO. Examination of the application will begin only after payment of the fee.
The amount of the fee also depends on the method of filing the application: online or paper filing.
The basic online filing fees are as follows:
- Online filing covering one class of goods and services – EUR 850.
- If you wish to select two classes, the fee for the second class is EUR 50.
- The third and each additional class selected will cost EUR 150.
The cost of filing a paper application covering one class of goods and services is EUR 1,000. The fees for all additional classes remain the same as for online filing.
When planning EU trademark registration cost, applicants should also consider the fee for national search reports. Upon the applicant’s request, EUIPO may prepare a special search report, or national search report.
It includes earlier registered marks, pending applications, national trademarks, or trademarks registered under international agreements that are effective in the relevant Member States and may become grounds for challenging the registration of your trademark.
The fee is EUR 60 for searches across five offices.
US Trademark Registration Cost: USPTO Trademark Filing Fees
In the case of trademark registration with the USPTO, the cost also depends on the number of classes, and there are certain nuances to consider.
If your application complies with the filing requirements, the basic filing fee for one class of goods or services is USD 350. Each additional class also costs USD 350.
Additional fees may apply if the application does not meet the filing requirements, namely:
- Missing information – USD 100.
- In an online application, use of a free–text field for identification of goods or services by class instead of the Trademark ID Manual – USD 200.
- Each additional 1,000 characters beyond the first 1,000 characters in the free–text field for describing goods and services, for each class included in the application – USD 200.
Immediately before registration, the following fees may apply:
Statement of Use
Statement of Use, or SOU, costs USD 150 per class.
This is a mandatory document for intent–to–use applications in order to complete registration. It must be filed within 6 months from the date of issuance of the Notice of Allowance, or NOA, which is a notification from the USPTO confirming that the mark has passed publication and there are no oppositions, so registration may proceed upon proof of use.
Amendment to Allege Use
Amendment to Allege Use, or AAU, costs USD 150 per class.
This is an “early” version of the SOU – when the mark is already in use, but the applicant has not yet waited for the NOA. It is filed after the application has been submitted but before the examining attorney approves the mark for publication, that is, before the “Approved for Publication” status.
If the trademark is already in use, the registration process may be faster.
Extension for Statement of Use
Extension for Statement of Use costs USD 125 per class every 6 months.
If the trademark has already reached “Approved for Publication” status, but the applicant still has not started using the trademark, it is possible to postpone abandonment of the registration application by filing an Extension for Statement of Use.
This option may be used up to 5 times, for a total of 3 years after NOA: 6 months original period plus 5 extensions of 6 months each.
Letter of Protest
Letter of Protest costs USD 150. This is a fixed fee, not a per–class fee.
This is filed not by the applicant, but by a third party, such as a competitor or any interested person, who wishes to object to the registration of your trademark on valid grounds, for example likelihood of confusion with an existing mark.
UK Trademark Registration Cost: UKIPO Trademark Fees
Starting from April 2026, UKIPO increased its trademark fees by approximately 20–25%. The old fees remained applicable until 31 March 2026, while the new fees took effect from 1 April 2026.
The main filing fees are as follows:
- Online application covering one class – GBP 205.
- Each additional class – GBP 60.
- Paper filing of an application – GBP 250.
- Request for expedited examination – GBP 370.
- Opposition based on likelihood of confusion – GBP 250.
How Nice Classification Affects Trademark Fees
One of the key factors that directly affects the cost of trademark registration is the number of selected classes under the Nice Classification of Goods and Services. Each class covers separate categories of goods or services for which the applicant seeks legal protection.
In most jurisdictions, the basic official fee includes only one class, while each additional class requires payment of a separate fee.
Therefore, the broader the list of goods or services to be covered by legal protection, the higher the total cost of trademark registration.
This applies to EUIPO, USPTO and UKIPO: additional classes increase the final cost, although the fee structure differs by jurisdiction.
Trademark fees are only one side of brand protection. The cost of not registering a trademark may be much higher if competitors copy your brand, file a similar mark first, or force your business into a dispute.
